Case Study >> A 45 year old man employed in a furniture manufacturing factory was referred to the Center with symptoms that included progressive fatigue at the end of workdays. He felt somewhat better after a weekend. After three years on the job he suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and has not been able to return to work. His work involved spray painting solvents, including some that contained methylene chloride, in a three sided booth that did not have local exhaust ventilation. Much of the time he worked up to fifty hours per week. Our physician conducted a through examination using the ATSDR guidelines which includes exposure, work, environmental and cultural histories. With this information our physician was able to identify the specific exposures, reviewed the appropriate MSDS forms and was able to make an accurate diagnosis and then prescribe the best course of treatment. The Center was then able to make the best Workers' Compensation case possible, one that contained all of the necessary medical and scientific documentation.
